NEWPORT BEACH...The Elk Lodges of Orange County came together on Saturday, February 28th, to host the Orange Coast Veteran District Stand Down of 2026, providing critical services and life-changing support to 180 local veterans.

With more than 50 service providers and community partners participating, veterans received access to medical care, dental services, haircuts, clothing, shoes, legal assistance, pet supplies, pet food, and a hot lunch — all in a welcoming, one-stop environment designed to restore dignity and hope.

Among the 180 veterans served was a single mother of three who had been working as a caregiver for a patient who recently passed away. Suddenly out of work and facing the very real threat of homelessness, she came to the Stand Down in desperate need of assistance. As a veteran and sole provider for her children, she found herself in an overwhelming and uncertain situation.

Through the combined efforts of the Orange County Elks, service providers, and community partners, she received immediate support and resources — and the assurance that she would not have to navigate this difficult chapter alone. The Elks will continue working with her to help stabilize her situation and ensure she and her children have the support they need moving forward.

This impactful event was made possible in part through funding from the Elks National Foundation (ENF) Spotlight Grant, which helped ensure comprehensive services were available to those who have served our country.

The collaboration of Orange County Elk Lodges reflects the organization’s deep and ongoing commitment to veterans. While the numbers — 180 veterans served and more than 50 resources provided — are significant, it is stories like this mother’s that truly illustrate the importance of the Stand Down.

“Our mission is not just to provide services for a day,” organizers shared. “It’s to stand beside our veterans when they need us most and to remind them that their community cares.”

The Orange Coast Veteran District Stand Down continues to be a powerful example of what can be accomplished when Elks work together with a shared purpose: serving those who served.
