School Board Election

The Board of Trustees for any local school district must balance the legitimate concerns of many stakeholder groups: students, parents, teachers, and taxpayers among others.  But of all these groups, only the teachers' union is organized and funded to affect who gets elected to the Board of Trustees.

In our own Huntington Beach Union High School District, which governs nine local high schools, the radical District Educators Association is engaged in an aggressive effort to take over the Board in the current election.  If they succeed, the teachers' union will be the only stakeholder that matters.  Parents and taxpayers will have no say about anything.  You can guess what this will mean for district finances.

Standing against this takeover effort are two veteran board members, Michael Simons and Susan Henry.  Reelecting these two independent board members is imperative to prevent a disaster for this district.  I strongly urge the reelection of Michael Simons and Susan Henry.
